چکیده

In the Sudan, indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaigns currently depend on carbamate insecticide Bendiocarb (2, 2 dimethyl-2H-1,3-benzodioxol-4-yl methyl carbamate; Ficam® 80% WP) at 200 mg/m² against Anopheles arabiensis Patton (Diptera: Culicidae) and other mosquitoes some household pests. Households building materials in targeted villages are mainly constructed by using different local (wood straw), mud bricks a third group use cement their walls. The activity (persistence) of substrates/materials (viz. straw, mud, cement), glass, which is used as non-absorbent substrate was determined. susceptibility to tested 5 concentrations (i.e. 80, 40, 20, 10, 5, 2.5 ppm). Ten adults were exposed for 24 hr. each these concentrations, replicated 4x, experiment repeated twice. substrates attached wall sprayed recommended WHO; WHO bioassay tests carried out evaluation standard cones. LC50 proved be 58ppm LC90 143 ppm, slope log-dose-probability line (Ld-P lines) 3.04. During first months 100% mortality obtained substrates. 2nd month showed all substrates, except (92.5% mortality). 3rd month, rate straw but 95% 87.5% registered cement, respectively. 4th results 60, 72.5, 90% following same order. However, after months, was: 25% 35% 42% 65% glass. It concluded that performance lowest 4 materials. stayed longer material, followed straw. glass substrate, persisted than could attributed its nature not absorbent inert material. Therefore, should an effective IRS A. materials, treatment least 2x / yr.

Designing of a laboratory model for evaluation of the residual effects of deltamethrin (K-othrine WP 5%) on different surfaces against malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi (diptera: culicidae).

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Deltamethrin plays an important role in controlling malaria vectors, and is used in indoor residual spraying and manufacture of long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets. The residual activity of deltamethrin (K-othrine WP 5%) @ 25 mg/m(2) was studied in laboratory conditions on different surfaces. METHODS The surfaces were made artificially with different building mater...

A Qualitative Evidence of the Breeding Sites of Anopheles arabiensis Patton (Diptera: Culicidae) in and Around Kassala Town, Eastern Sudan

Anopheles arabiensis Patton (Diptera: Culicidae) is considered the most efficient malaria vector in eastern Sudan. This study aims to characterize the breeding sites of An. arabiensis throughout the year in and around Kassala town, eastern Sudan. Diverse larval habitat types were visited and characterized based on the habitat type and chemical composition. Mosquito larvae were found in many div...

Efficacy of agnique (mmf) monomolecular surface film against immature stages of Anopheles arabiensis patton and Culex spp (diptera: culicidae) in Khartoum, Sudan.

The efficacy of the larvicidal and pupicidal agent (Agnique) MMF was evaluated against larvae of An. arabiensis and Culex (Diptera: Culicidae) under field conditions in Bahary Locality, Khartoum, Sudan. At an applied dosage of 0.25 ml/m2, MMF resulted in 89.4, 79.8 and 88.2% reductions in L3-L4 instars An. arabiensis and 63.5% in Culex larvae (all stages) 24 to 72 hours post-treatment. Pupae we...

Spatial and habitat distribution of Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles arabiensis (Diptera: Culicidae) in Banambani village, Mali.

We studied the larval distribution and composition of Anopheles arabiensis Patton, An. gambiae s.s. Giles, and its forms, among local habitats; and their association with the adults between these habitats in Banambani village, Mali during the mid-rainy seasons of 1997-1999. For species and form identification we used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and PCR-restriction fragment-length polymorphi...
